I win.

I sat outside.

In competition with a lizard.

To see who could stay in one place longest.

A breath of laundry brushed my nose and the wind caressed my face.

The lizard twitched.

I shifted.

The grass tickled my feet. I crossed my legs. This was a serious matter.

The lizard cocked its head.

The warmth of the aluminum chair surrounded me. Trying to pull me in. Like an aluminum siren.

So I closed my eyes.

To open them and find the lizard

Gone.
